Popular carnival to mark Queen’s jubilee
ORGANISERS have announced plans for this year’s Gosport carnival to tie in with the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
The theme for the carnival, which takes place in May, is Queen Elizabeth’s reign of 60 years.
The popular event will be raising money for the mayor of Gosport’s chosen charity, which is the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help.
Brian Russell, spokesman for organising group the Gosporteers, said: ‘While 2012 is a busy year with the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations and the Olympics, the people of Gosport have always enjoyed the carnival.
‘The procession should be a major attraction, with a wide range of topics for participants.’
The Walpole Park carnival will be opened by the mayor Cllr Chris Carter at 11am on May 5.
At 2pm a walking procession will set off from the park and follow a route through South Relief Road, High Street and Walpole Road.
Anyone who would like to take part in the procession or book a stall on the day must request an application form from the Gosporteers.
You can write to secretary Brian Forhead at 67 Galemore Avenue, Gosport, or call (023) 9252 2772.
