A GROUP of firefighters collected more than £400 for charity by shaking their collection tins in Portchester precinct.

The firefighters from Portchester Fire Station took their fire engine to the shopping precinct on Saturday, December 22 and raised £430.

Firefighter Steve Turp said: ‘It was a good result and I want to say thank you to everybody that contributed.’

The proceeds went to the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides services that enhance the quality of life for serving and retired firefighters.

Portchester Fire Station has raised over £2,600 for the charity this year.
