MANY youngsters in Portsmouth and the surrounding area have been using their spare time during the summer holiday to help their community.

Teenagers taking part in the government initiative, the National Citizen Service, have organised an abundance of fundraisers and projects to benefit people who live in their area.

These events ranged from tea parties for residents at Fortune House and Tamar House sheltered housing schemes, in Gosport, to looking after animals at Barn Farm near Hambledon, and a charity event at Fareham Bandstand which raised £840 for the NSPCC and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The NCS programme is run by Portsmouth and South East Hants Education Business Partnership – one of the new delivery partners for the flagship government scheme.
