Portsmouth City Council is inviting cyclists of all ages and abilities to take part in the city’s first Pedal Portsmouth event.

Riders will meet at Castle Field, in Southsea, on September 27, at 11am, before embarking on the four-mile cycle along the seafront.

Once the ride is complete, families will be able to enjoy an afternoon of activities, where young cyclists will be presented with a Pedal Portsmouth certificate.

Leader of the council, Cllr Donna Jones, said: ‘Pedal Portsmouth is a perfect opportunity for families and individuals of all abilities to cycle safely on a traffic free route.

‘Cycling is on the increase and Portsmouth is an ideal place to be on your bike whether you are an experienced cyclist or a beginner.’

The event has been organised in partnership with Portsmouth Cycling Forum, which aims to get more people using bikes in their day-to-day life.

Jon Spencer, of the Portsmouth Cycle Forum, said: ’This is a wonderful opportunity for people to experience the seafront without the traffic.

‘We hope this is the first of many events to open up our city to riders of all ages and abilities.’
