KNITTERS and crocheters have been called on to help ‘yarn bomb’ a Second World War tank.

The Churchill tank outside the D-Day Museum in Southsea will be covered with knitted yarn during the Victorious Festival on August 23 and August 24.

Called ‘Operation Tanktop’ the event is being organised by the Feel Yourself Campaign, which promotes self-checking to spot breast and testicular cancer. After the festival the material will be turned into blankets for homeless veterans. Organisers are keen to get both serving military personnel and veterans involved in the project
