FIREFIGHTERS put out a fire in a bin outside a block of flats.

Southsea Fire Station was called to deal with the situation off Albert Road, Southsea, at 9.30pm on Saturday.

A resident who saw smoke coming from the bin made the 999 call.

Crews used a jet to put out the flames. The incident is being treated as deliberate.

Red watch firefighter Glen Donnelly said: ‘Our officer in command, watch manager Rob Dellow, liaised with the person who called it (the incident) in.
