A BLAZE in a derelict shed was started deliberately, firefighters said.

Crews from Cosham and Southsea fire stations were called to the fire in Copnor Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, near the Roko Health Club.

Two fire engines from Cosham station and one from Southsea tackled the small blaze in a disused bowling shed.

Fire crews say someone had broken into the building and deliberately started a fire in a corner.

It took crews 45 minutes to put the fire out and make the area safe.

No-one was hurt in the blaze, which was reported at about 7pm on Tuesday.

Hampshire Constabulary is now investigating.

Firefighters from Southsea station were also called out to an automatic fire alarm in Old Portsmouth, later that evening. Again no-one was hurt.

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Michael Nol on 0845 0454545.
