Crews called to unattended cooking fire in Portsmouth flat

Fire fighters from Southsea were called to a fire in a Portsea flat in the early hours of this morning.

The fire broke out in the property’s lounge, and two people managed to get out and raise the alarm at 2.30am.

The damage to the flat, in St James’s Street, was mainly caused by smoke.

Ambulance staff treated the residents at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
