A SERVICE for homeless people in Portsmouth has been crowned charity of the year.

Central Point, run by the national charity Rethink Mental Illness, won Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year award this month.

The service works with people who are homeless, including those who have mental illnesses such as severe depression or schizophrenia.

The award was given by Sainsbury’s supermarket in Commercial Road, in recognition of the charity’s work to improve lives.

The service received £500, and will now team up with the store to fundraise.
