MORE than 80 members of Tourism South East gathered for its annual meeting at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel.

It featured workshops and guest speakers focusing on tourism policy, market trends and social media.

Workshops were hosted by Alistair MacGregor, territory manager from the website Trip Advisor, and travel journalist and broadcaster Alison Rice.

During the event, Barend-Jan Schreuder, general manager of the Southampton Road hotel, presented certificates to Peter Colling, managing director of Tourism South Sea.

Guest speakers included Kurt Janson, policy director at Tourism Alliance, Shaon Orrell, head of research and insight at Visit England, and Tom Frame, managing director at Design Haus UK.

Representatives from Barclaycard and Barclays Bank attended the event to discuss government funding.

The certificates represented trees that will be planted at the Huckling Estate in Maidstone, Kent, as part of the hotel’s green initiative.
