A PORTSMOUTH music group has been granted extra funding for the next three years.

Portsmouth Music Hub, which is made of musicians aged five to 18, has received confirmation from Arts Council England that it will be in line for extra cash until March 2015.

The money means that staff can continue teaching children how to play an instrument and sing at the group, which was launched in November.

Youngsters will also be able to borrow instruments and discounts will be given to those from low income families.

Sue Beckett, head of Portsmouth Music Service, said: ‘This is excellent news for music in Portsmouth. It means that Portsmouth Music Hub will be able to continue to provide a wide range of high quality musical opportunities for young people across the city.

Lyn Rich, chairwoman of Portsmouth Music Hub’s board, said: ‘We are delighted that Arts Council England has recognised our successful work.’
