CHILDREN who helped design a playground were excited to find out the area has won an award.
The Somers Town adventure playground in Waterloo Street was voted the winner of the best landscaping category in 2011 by the Portsmouth Society.
Lord Mayor Councillor Cheryl Buggy was joined by families and members of the society for a plaque unveiling to mark the occasion.
It was given the accolade because of its innovative and eye-catching design.
Architects from Portsmouth City Council’s design group created the playground layout, and worked closely with children to incorporate their ideas.
The playground includes a climbing wall, slide, sandpit and a multi-level climbing structure.
Joan Fisher, play service manager, said: ‘The playground has been a huge success. The children can explore a variety of different areas where they can learn and have lots of fun.’
