Portsmouth poet Maggie Sawkins will be reading her work among seasoned professionals at the TS Eliot Prize for Poetry Tour at Portsmouth Grammar School next week.

Mrs Sawkins, a founder member of poetry and music club Tongues and Grooves, will be joined by George Szirtes, Penelope Shuttle, and Tim Liardet, who have all previously been short-listed for the national prize.

The event at 7pm on Tuesday in the school’s Memorial Library has been jointly organised by Portsmouth BookFest and The Portsmouth Festivities to celebrate 20 years of the prize, with Portsmouth holding the first leg in a national tour which will visit several cities.
