A PORTSMOUTH health centre is urging residents to put their sexual health under the microscope next week.

As part of national Sexual Health Week, the healthcare centre in Guildhall Walk aims to remind people of the importance of looking after themselves.

Dr Marjorie Gillespie, primary care medical director at Care UK, which runs the centre, wants people living in the city to take advantage of the contraceptive advice, including emergency contraception and chlamydia screening.

She said: ‘STIs can be very nasty and, as always, prevention is better than a cure.

‘Members of our nursing team can offer advice on contraception and carry out cervical screening.

‘In some cases we can signpost people to other sexual health services locally,’

Guildhall Walk healthcare centre is open from 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year for walk-in patients.

The extended hours have seen more patients register the centre as their local GP surgery.

For further information about registering as a patient and the services provided at the healthcare centre call (023) 9280 8539.
