A CHURCH in Portsmouth is being given a five-figure makeover.

Work will begin to modernise City Life Church, in Tangier Road, Copnor, on Monday.

As part of the £70,000 refurbishment a new main foyer, community hall and patio area will be built. New toilets and a coffee shop will be put in. And plans are being made to install a large television screen with surround sound on the ground floor. It will be used to replay services for people unable to attend Sunday morning services.

The church was given the green light for the project six months ago. Pastor Dan Harman, 28, who was appointed leader of the church in November, hopes the changes will be more convenient for people.

He said: ‘It’s taken several meetings to get the go ahead for this project but now we hope to build a bridge between the church and the people living in the community so that it’s more accessible to them.’

The work is expected to be finished in eight weeks time.
