GENEROUS shoppers donated hundreds of pounds of food to an animal shelter.

Morrisons shoppers at Victory Retail Park, Portsmouth proved they are top of the shops when it comes to donating food for the many needy animals at the Stubbington Ark, which is one of the largest RSPCA animal shelters in the country.

Last month the supermarket placed a kennel at the front of the store where customers can drop off donations.

Vanessa Eden, fundraising manager at the Ark, said: ‘The response from shoppers has been fantastic. All the food will be used for the numerous animals we have on site.’

Jules Davis, charity co-ordinator at the store, said: ‘We are always keen to support local charities and the kennel we are using to accept pet food donations in store has become a talking point amongst customers.

‘The Ark covers an area of 400 square miles which includes Portsmouth.

‘We are delighted that the response has exceeded expectations and we all look forward to continuing our support.’
