TO CELEBRATE World Book Day today, Portsmouth’s libraries will be handing out mystery ‘books in a bag’.

Librarians will hand visitors books they recommend to help readers try something new.

At Portsmouth’s Central Library, in Guildhall Square, the city’s poet laureate KeliAnne B was also due to give a performance at 1pm.

The poet also features in Portsmouth Reads, a short film to be shown on the big screen in Guildhall Square today and on World Book Night on Saturday.

The film looks at Portsmouth’s love of reading.

In the run-up to World Book Day, readers have voted for their favourite children’s book character.

The winner will be announced today in schools, at library group visits and on Portsmouth City Council’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
