A PROPOSAL has been made to turn HM Kingston Prison into a community hub.

The prison, in Milton, was closed in March last year and no plans have been made on what to do with the Grade Two listed building.

But three people have come together and want to turn the prison into a community hub.

Behind the proposal are Christine Pollard, former chair of the independent monitoring board of Kingston Prison, Paul Sherry, chief executive of Champs Behaviours, and Nicholas McGeorge, a community mediator and former principal psychologist for the Isle of Wight prisons.

They have plans to turn HM Kingston Prison into a hub to support people, provide start-up offices and provide a base for neighbourhood groups.

But they admit a lot of work is required to move the proposal forward.
