A PROTEST will taking place at Guildhall Square, in Portsmouth, later today in reaction to government cuts.

It is taking place after a number of job losses in the city – including 5,000 sailors and a host of Ministry of Defence civil servants – and cuts to the tax office and land registry.

The protest is also in reaction to the government’s decision to cut housing benefit and disability allowance.

Local trade unionists believe this is only 20 per cent of the total cuts the government is yet to introduce and that there will be much more to come in the near future.

Protests are taking place all over the country, the one at Portsmouth Guildhall take place at 5pm today.
