SILVERWARE, paintings and statues not usually on display to the public will be the subject of a town hall tour.

Gosport Borough Council is opening up the civic wing of its town hall, in High Street, to give people the rare chance to see various gifts presented to the council.

An exhibition at the Gosport Gallery will also show many of the items to visitors.

Gosport’s mayor, Councillor Chris Carter, said: ‘We have many wonderful items on display in the town hall which unfortunately most people never get the chance to see.

‘We have items dotted all over the place. Sadly because of a lack of display space, many items are in storage for safe keeping.

‘This event will give the public the chance to see some of the things presented or donated to the borough.’

The Treasures of the Town Hall exhibition will be held at the Gosport Gallery all this week until Saturday.

A free tour of the town hall’s civic wing will take place on Wednesday.
