PEOPLE have been warned to stay away from South Parade Pier which has suffered storm damage.
Portsmouth City Council is warning the public to keep away from the area.
Claire Upton-Brown, the council’s city development manager, said: ‘Recent extreme weather has damaged South Parade Pier. There’s a risk from falling debris, so we’re asking people not to walk underneath or near the structure.
‘The pier is already closed as a public safety measure.
‘We’ve put up further fencing and warning signs, and are looking at ways to prevent access to the area more permanently.
‘While the council is responsible for public protection, the owners of the pier are responsible for repairing it.
‘We’ll continue to monitor the situation to make sure the public are kept safe along this stretch of the seafront.’
