Queen’s award for Hampshire guides

TWO Girl Guides have received a coveted award.

Kirsty Taylor, 22, from Bedhampton, and 26-year-old Samantha Kendell, from Wickham, have shown they are leading the way after receiving Girl Guiding UK’s top accolade, the Queen’s Guide Award.

Kirsty, who is leader with 4th Purbrook Guides and whose Queen’s Guide achievements include organising a camp for Guides, running an activity day for more than 150 people and learning to kayak, said: ‘The Queen’s Guide award has given me the personal belief that even when things are going wrong and the end looks a long way off, I know I am more than capable to keep my head held high and carry on.’

Samantha is a leader at Waltham Chase Guides and completed a NVQ in leadership, started a new ranger unit and even visit K2 base camp.

The awards were presented by Baroness Angela Smith.
