HEAVY rainfall and winds could be coming to the Portsmouth area this Sunday.

The Met Office has said there is a 40 per cent chance of the winds from the hurricane that hit America last week hitting the south coast.

If it does, there will be high winds and heavy rainfall throughout the day on Sunday.

But Simon Partridge, a forecaster, said it is still unknown exactly where it will hit.

He said: ‘The bad weather could be a little further to the south and by-pass us on its way to France.

‘But if it is further north, it could hit England.

‘At the moment, there is only a 40 per cent chance of that happening.

‘But we will monitor the situation and the appropriate weather warnings will be issued.’
