THE latest drive to raise money for The Rowans Hospice is here – giving readers a chance to win a car.

To ensure the success of Dorothy’s Dream – a service which gives terminally-ill people the chance to spend their final days at home with their loved ones – £1m needs to be raised.

So far the Purbrook hospice has raised £765,000 for the pilot scheme, and is hoping to boost this with its latest fundraiser.

People are invited to enter a raffle draw for £1 and be in with a chance to win a three-door Citroen C1.

The car has been donated by Richmond Citroen, in Portsmouth.

Its managing director Michael Nobes said: ‘I’m always happy to help out with a good cause.

‘The Rowans does such a good job for everybody. The Rowans is always happy to do its part in the community.’

The fundraising idea came from hospice volunteer Penny Taw.

The 62-year-old said: ‘There always needs to be money coming in for Dorothy’s Dream.

‘My family have had Citroen and Hyundai cars and so I went to see Mr Nobes to see if he could donate a car.

‘After about 15 minutes of me saying how great the hospice is, he asked me what I wanted. And I asked if he could give a car that could be raffled off.

‘I was pleased they agreed so quickly.’

Since the hospice at home service started in September, more than 100 people have benefited.

Ann Cooper, head of fundraising at the hospice, said: ‘This is a good initiative for us and a different way for us to be raising the money.

‘The generosity shown has been fantastic for us. Because the car has been donated, all ticket money will come directly to Dorothy’s Dream.’

The raffle draw takes place on April 1.

Tickets can be bought from hospice stores in the area and at the following locations:

n Monday, February 27 to Sunday, March 4: The Meridian Shopping Centre, Havant.

n Monday, March 5 to Sunday, March 11: Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouh.

n Monday, March 12 to Sunday, March 18: Port Solent, Portsmouth.
