A RALLY in tribute of Portsmouth Messerschmitts racing driver Ken Piper has won a top award.

The event, which brought over 50 unusual-looking three and four-wheel Messerschmitts to Beaulieu, received the Classic and Sports Car Award’s best club show/event.

The trophy was then presented to Ken and his wife Charlie by the Messerschmitts Owners Club at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. Ken, the club’s president who is now in his late 80s, won many races, rallies and trials in Messerschmitts during his long racing career.

‘Bubble car’ Messerschmitts from the UK, the Netherlands and Germany arrived in convoy for the rally, which was held at the museum in August.

The event marked 21 years since the Messerschmitts Owners Club last visited Beaulieu in 1994.
