The Wessex Orchid Society will have a wide range of exotic plants at its autumn show next weekend.

The show will take place at Portchester Community School on Saturday from 11am until 4.30pm.

The Mayor of Fareham will be awarding the trophies for the best plants in the show from about midday.

In addition to the main society display there will be three orchid nurseries showing many orchids in flower.

This photograph of a lovely red slipper orchid, right, taken at one of our previous autumn shows, is just one example of the many orchids on display that visitors will not see elsewhere.

Orchids, both in flower and as smaller plants, can be bought from these nurseries, and orchid accessories such as special composts and fertilisers will also be available.

To help you to learn more about orchids there will be a re-potting demonstration and question time at 12.15pm and again in the early afternoon.

There will also be a problem table manned throughout the show at which you can ask questions and bring sick orchids to ask about their care.

There will be a cafeteria providing refreshments, including a simple lunch and tea, and there will also be a raffle, tombola and cake stall.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see and learn more about these beautiful and exotic plants. Don’t miss it!
