Recognise your hero with a citizen award nomination

RESIDENTS in Gosport are being encouraged to nominate someone who has cared for and helped others.

Gosport Borough Council wants to know who deserves to be acknowledged for their care, consideration and devotion in helping other people.

Nominees for both the citizen of the year and youth award must be in by Sunday, March 31, with an award ceremony held in May.

The citizen award is given to a resident who has made a difference in any way, including as a volunteer, fundraiser, or who has driven elderly or disabled people to appointments. And it could be given to anyone who has helped people out with odd jobs, including shopping, decorating or gardening.

The youth award will go to a resident aged under 18 who has helped the elderly or disadvantaged.

It can also be given to someone who has shown courage in coping with a disability or committing an act of bravery.

Nominations must come from independent people and you cannot nominate yourself.

Get an application form at the Town Hall, on gosport.gov.uk/citizenoftheyear, or call (023) 92545651.
