A RECORD number of people have visited a beauty spot in Havant.

A total of 134,008 people visited Staunton Country Park between April 2011 and April this year – more than 21,000 visitors than the previous year.

A report to Hampshire County Council, which owns the country park, also stated that membership had increased, generating a revenue of around £121,000.

Park manager at Staunton Gordon Gardner said: ‘We managed to be 31 per cent above last year, which is a superb increase and continues Staunton’s change from being an attraction over-reliant on day visitors.’

There are now more than 4,200 members of the country park.

According to the report, more than 10,000 schoolchildren visited the park last year, a slight drop on the previous year.
