GENEROUS people in Havant have helped raise more than £4,000 for a charity.

The British Red Cross has said a big thank you to the people of the town and Hayling Island for digging deep during a dedicated fundraising week in May.

Red Cross Week runs through founder Henry Dunant’s birthday.

Local volunteers collected at railway stations, supermarkets, in high streets and on doorsteps, raising funds to support Red Cross projects both in the UK and overseas.

Events included a 10,000ft skydive team and ‘dress in red’ days at schools and offices across the county.

Hampshire fundraiser Charlie Martin said: ‘We rely on our fantastic volunteers giving their time to collect money in aid of the Red Cross in one of a million ways.

‘But it’s also thanks to the public who donate to help fund our work – we couldn’t do it without you.’
