THE Coastguard rescued a man who became stranded in the mud and clung to a buoy for safety.

The drama took place at 8pm on Monday at Osprey Quay, Emsworth.

Selsey and Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Teams rescued the man using mud rescue equipment. Hampshire Fire and Rescue team and South Central Ambulance Service also assisted.

A spokesman for the Coastguard said the man had gone out to retrieve a paddle when he got stuck.

They added: ‘Our advice, if you do find yourself stuck in the mud, is to try to spread your weight as much as possible, avoid moving and stay as calm as you can. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
