RESIDENTS spoke of their shock after a man fell from the seventh floor of a block of flats in Portsmouth.

He was taken by air ambulance to hospital after the horrific incident at Darwin House, Australia Close, off Arundel Street, this morning.

Diane Smith, 61, of nearby Perth House, said it was a miracle that the man had apparently survived the fall.

She said: ‘I woke up to the sound of a helicopter and saw the air ambulance and loads of police cars.

‘An officer told me that a man had fell from the seventh floor and I can’t believe he’s still alive. It’s a miracle.’

Charlotte Metcalfe, 34, of Buriton House, said: ‘To fall from such a height and live is amazing.

‘Apparently he was still conscious afterwards but he is just lucky to be alive.’
