People have been quick to speak out after Portsmouth was said to be the shyest area in the country.
Shoppers taking part in a straw poll outside the Asda superstore in Bedhampton said they got on well with their neighbours.
Dawn Holmes, 42, of Widley, said: ‘I think it’s quite an outgoing area.’
David Nuel, 75, from Waterlooville, said he had moved here from London 10 years ago and found it to be a much friendlier area.
And Emma Courts, 35, of Purbrook, said: ‘We are more guarded than we are shy - people are more protective now about what they have got than they ever used to be.’
