VICTORIA Park will be turned into a theatre to welcome back the popular Opera in the Park.

For its return the event is to stage Popera – a show made up of pop songs which have been transformed and will be performed in an operatic style by singers from the major British Opera Companies.

Audience members are encouraged to join in for the legendary sing-along.

The show has humorous scenes and heart-rending arias from the world’s favourite operas.

Heather Todd, from Portsmouth City Council’s events team, said: ‘This event is always popular and has a lovely atmosphere. The audience get into the spirit of the event, last year some people even brought a table with a cloth and candelabra.’

Gates open at 6pm on next Saturday. See
