OFSTED inspectors have praised a Gosport school for making significant improvements in all areas.

Elson Junior School, in Exmouth Road, has been rated as good after its latest inspection.

That is a success after the school was given a ‘requires improvement’ rating last year.

Since then, Elson headteacher Celia Rich has been determined and driven in making sure the school makes vital changes.

With a strong foundation in helping students develop with musical talents, the school has launched its own Elson Youth Orchestra, which impressed inspectors.

The report said the junior school is ‘harmonious’ with community at its heart.

It said its teachers provided lively and engaging learning experiences that drew on pupils’ interests and the local area.

And the report added leadership and management are good, while ‘good teaching effectively enables pupils to acquire good literacy and numeracy skills in preparation for secondary school’.
