MOTORISTS can breathe a sigh of relief after delayed road works have finally finished – four weeks behind schedule.
Works at the junction at Broom Way and Cherque Way for improvements to access to Daedalus were due to take a month but they took eight weeks after contractors used sub-standard tarmac.
Hampshire County Council said this led to the delay.
Contractors had to replace more of the underground parts of the traffic lights system as it was in a poor state.
This also contributed to the delay.
Driver Bob Worby, 68, of Manor Way, said: ‘You could sit there and have three changes before you got anywhere near it.’
Transport boss Councillor Sean Woodward said the delay was unfortunate but it was important to get things right.
The work started on June 2 and finished on Monday.
