Dennis, from the Rotary Club of Portsmouth and Southsea, succeeded in raising $70,000 (£50,300) to send three teachers to Manila where they carried out teacher training.

The money was raised with the help of 18 other Rotary clubs in Hampshire, as well as another 15 from a wider area.

Acting as the primary international contact, it was Dennis’ job to organise the fundraising and send the teachers to the school.

He got in touch with different Rotary clubs, telling them about the project as well as making the necessary arrangements for the visit. Dennis was also able to secure a grant to help with the funds.

He says: ‘This project was a big one for Rotary and we hope that sending the teachers to Tondo Senior School to do training will help in the future.

‘It took a lot of hard work from everyone involved to get Caroline Gwatkin and Joanna Glos to Manila.

‘All the Rotaries who donated helped make it happen.

‘To raise the $70,000 was quite an achievement and the grant that we were given is quite difficult to get.’

A presentation will be held next month showing the work the teachers carried out.
