A FORMER mayor and current councillor has taken over the reins as the president of the Fareham Rotary Club.
Pam Bryant’s theme as the new president is Care, Compassion and Consideration, which fits into her wish to support charities near home.
And support for cancer charities and the Fareham Stroke Club is high on the agenda. They will be supported by the newly-formed Wykeham House Interact Club, which is sponsored by Fareham Rotary.
Interact is for young people aged from 12 to 18 and aims to encourage and inspire local students to complete two community service projects annually and develop their leadership skills.
Its members are making blankets for the Fareham Stroke Club.
Mrs Bryant said: ‘I am honoured and humbled to have become the Rotary Club of Fareham’s president for the coming year and trust my chosen charities and community projects will benefit from our support locally.’
The international side of the Rotary service this year has the theme Engage Rotary, Change Lives, and the Fareham branch aims to emphasise this through its continuing to contribute to the eradication of polio appeal, as well as the Rotary Dentaid Box scheme which aims to improve the oral health of disadvantaged communities around the world.
Mrs Bryant takes over from outgoing president Duncan Colin-Jones.
