TWO Royal Marine musicians are celebrating after hitting all the right notes in their musical training — and with each other.

Musician Megan Devoy, 21, and Bugler Kyle Porter, 24, have both graduated from the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth.

And if that wasn’t enough cause for celebration, they are also preparing to tie the knot after falling in love following basic training.

Kyle and Megan met during the demanding period of elite soldier training that all Royal Marines are put through.

They grew closer as their musical studies progressed and before long Kyle proposed beneath the fireworks on New Year’s Day.

Kyle said: ‘We have seen each other at our highest and lowest points during training.

‘It’s a good way to test the relationship.

‘Our colleagues are all really supportive — but of course you expect a bit of good-natured banter.’

Megan has now been posted to the Royal Marines Band of HMS Collingwood in Fareham and Kyle to the band at HMS Nelson in Portsmouth.

They have bought a house together in Fareham and can’t wait to get married in Chichester next year.

Kyle, from Omagh in Northern Ireland, proposed to Megan this year at midnight on New Year’s Day in Edinburgh.

‘It was brilliant, I was trying to hide the ring in my pocket all night and had to keep making excuses about what was in my jacket,’ he said.

‘She didn’t suspect a thing. I was a bit nervous... but I knew she would say yes.’

Megan, from Fareham, added: ‘I thought he was behaving a bit odd, but I didn’t think anything of it.

‘It was a total surprise and it was brilliant.’

The Royal Marines School of Music, at Portsmouth Naval Base, trains all the Royal Marines musicians who go on to join the elite military bands around the country.

The band is due to put on its biggest event of the year on August 8 with a concert and Beating Retreat ceremony at Portsmouth Guildhall to mark the latest graduations.
