THE RSPB is calling on gardeners to record sightings of birds over a weekend.

The Big Garden Birdwatch takes place on January 28 and 29.

The annual event, which has run since 1979, invites people of all ages from across the UK to spend an hour counting the birds that visit their gardens.

All you have to do is visit the RSPB website, rspb.org.uk, to enter your findings. Last year more than 600,000 people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch and counted more than 10 million birds. House sparrows retained the top spot for the eighth year running in the 2011 survey, with an average of four seen per garden.
