In a statement he said: ‘We are aware of an incident that occurred on the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at around 11am this morning in which a Gosport Borough Council refuse vehicle overturned.

‘We will be working closely with the refuse contractors, Urbaser Ltd, to look into the causes of the incident.

‘Collections in the Lee-on-Solent area are affected by this incident.

‘We want to minimise delays, so our teams will work as late as possible this evening to make collections. If your bins have not been collected by this evening, leave them out and they will be collected as soon as possible.

‘We will keep residents informed via social media and the council website.’

Two people were taken to hospital after the bin lorry jack-knifed and overturned.
