A FIRM has picked up a gold award for its environmental work in Gosport.

Kier picked up the Green Apple Gold Award at the House of Commons for environmental best practice.

It comes as recognition of its work at the waste transfer station, in Wilmott Lane, Gosport.

The firm competed against more than 500 other entries to win the award.

The facility has made savings of £80,000 in waste going to landfill, a 43-tonne increase in reused waste, had no accidents, 100 per cent increase in scrap metal recycling, and has recycled 170 tonnes of wood from 2011 to 2013.
