RAISING money for a local charity was part of the reason Andrew de Bere signed up for the Great South Run.
The 49-year-old was inspired by the work of the Highlands Hub, in Fareham, and has already reached his target of £1,000.
Andrew went into the hub on Highlands Road, which runs a community cafe, and liked the service they were providing.
He said: ‘I really wanted to fundraise for them and thought I could get fit at the same time.
‘This will be the third time I have taken part and my aim is to just finish it without stopping.
‘If it takes three hours, it takes three hours.’
Andrew, from Tewkesbury Avenue, added: ‘I’ve been training for it and I am up to six and a half miles.’
