VULNERABLE people who feel they are being bullied or intimidated can take shelter in shops, libraries and other venues which are taking part in a national scheme.
The Safer Places Scheme is being launched in Havant next week and provides disabled and vulnerable people with somewhere to go where trained volunteers can help them if they are in distress.
Each individual eligible to sign up is given a card that displays their name and a telephone number of someone they trust, for example, a family member or a support worker who can be contacted if they are feeling scared or upset.
Shops, libraries, businesses and agencies in the borough have already signed up to take part in the scheme by displaying the brightly-coloured logo identifying them as a Safe Place and can offer help to someone who may be in distress.
The aim of this scheme is to stop bullying and abuse of people with learning disabilities and those who are vulnerable.
