SHORTS worn by sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston sold for more than £160 at an auction.

Sir Robin sold his Route de Rhum shorts with the money going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Bidding ended on Christmas Day and the colourful shorts were sold for £165.

They were worn by the 75-year-old as he came into port in Guadeloupe last month after coming third in the transatlantic race.

The shorts were sold in a frame along with a signature by Sir Robin who was the first man to sail solo around the world. He also founded the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
