SAILORS from HMS Collingwood have helped round up almost 100 fibre glass rhinos from Marwell Zoo’s Go! Rhinos campaign in Southampton.

Ten trainees worked with zookeepers to take down the sculptures in Southampton city centre.

The sailors from the base in Fareham volunteered throughout the campaign and assisted in cleaning, repairing and deconstructing the rhinos, up for auction this month.

Kirstie Mathieson, Go! Rhinos project manager said: ‘The trainees played a crucial part. We couldn’t have done it without them!’

Engineer Connor Hamilton said: ‘It’s been nice to get involved with a project that’s been embraced by the community like this one has.’

The sailors were rewarded with an afternoon at the zoo.
