Sailors take to the streets to help raise cash for poppy day

SAILORS from HMS Sultan in Gosport and HMS Collingwood in Fareham helped the Royal British Legion raise £760,000 on London Poppy Day.

A team of 27 sailors from the Royal Navy Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School based at HMS Sultan were joined by sailors from HMS Collingwood, HMS President and HMS Severn.

They put on their ceremonial uniforms and took to the streets to raise money.

Lieutenant Sarah Vines, of HMS Sultan, said: ‘Everyone involved worked extremely hard to raise an enormous amount of money for the Royal British Legion.’

The Royal British Legion raised £760,000 on November 5. The sailors helped raise £65,000 of it.
