GET your basket and blanket ready – because you’re invited to a huge picnic this weekend.
The Rowans Hospice will be hosting a big picnic at Canoe Lake in Southsea on Saturday for all to attend.
It will follow on from the hospice’s Big Bed Push event, which will see about 60 people take it in turns to push a bed from the Rowans in Purbrook to Canoe Lake.
There is now just £279,000 left to raise towards the £1m target for the new Rowans Hospice at Home service, due to be launched in September.
Ruth White, chief executive of the Rowans, is inviting the whole community to the big picnic at the lake to help raise money and celebrate the success of the Dorothy’s Dream appeal and the bed push.
She said: ‘Everyone at The Rowans Hospice is really excited about the bed push which is symbolic of the Big Push for Dorothy’s Dream.
‘The Big Picnic will be the grand finale of the day’s events and we invite the whole community to come and help us celebrate.
‘Simply bring along your own food and drink plus a blanket or chairs if needed to Canoe Lake from 2pm. The bed should arrive at about 3pm so have your pennies ready to throw in the collection buckets.’
The bed push will start at the Rowans at 9am. From there it will head to Cosham along London Road, pass through North End, Commercial Road, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, along Southsea seafront, and finish at Canoe Lake. It will stop for a while at four locations where people can make donations.
They will be at Cosham High Street, where the bed will arrive about 10am; Commercial Road where the bed is expected to roll up at 11.30am; the Historic Dockyard which will welcome the bed pushers at about 12.30pm; and the hover terminal on Clarence Esplanade on Southsea seafront where the bed push team will arrive at about 2pm.
The bed pushers will then make the final push along the seafront, arriving at Canoe Lake at about 3pm.
