Scalextric factory workers sought by fans

DEALERS, collectors and clubs from across the country will descend upon the home of Scalextric for a swap weekend.

The electric toy racing cars were developed and made in a factory in New Road, Havant, in the 1950s by the company Minimodels.

People still have a huge passion for them now and on September 28 hundreds of people are expected at the first ever Swapmeet at Havant Leisure Centre.

The centre is close to where production moved to in the 1960s when demand soared.

Although Scalextric is now produced in Margate by Hornby, fans still consider Havant the toy’s rightful home.

Organisers Robert Learmouth and Steve Cannon are keen to speak to former Minimodels factory workers.

If you have photos or stories call them on 01793 230328 or email Havant.Scalextric@gmail.com.
