Schoolchildren drive to victory

‘UK needs to boost its budget for the military’

LEESLAND Junior schoolchildren have sped to victory in the Jaguar Cars Maths in Motion challenge for schools.

Three teams of year six pupils from the Gosport school scooped first, second and third places at the Christmas fun race for schools in the Bay House cluster.

The challenge involves pupils in pairs working out mathematical problems to race their virtual car fastest down the Grand Prix track. Jake Grant and Michael Canham, both 10, who came first, will now be put through to the UK finals in the new year.

Jackie Pick, acting headteacher, said: 'The Jaguar Car Challenge involves a wide range of basic mathematical skills, such as multiplication, percentages, rounding and decimals and has been a fantastic experience for the children. They're all very keen to improve their cars ready for the next race.'
