FOUR Scout districts across Portsmouth and Hampshire have launched a volunteer recruitment campaign to allow more young people to join the movement.

Scouting in Hampshire attracted 604 extra members in the last year, but the dearth of volunteers means more youngsters than ever before are on the waiting list.

Havant, Petersfield, Portsmouth and Waterlooville Scouts have now teamed together to create ‘4D’ (4 Districts) to inspire 50 new adult leaders to sign up.

Richard Merefield, Waterlooville Scouts commmissioner, said: ‘Armed with banners, posters and leaflets, we’ll be holding displays at supermarkets and public events across the four Scout districts.

‘No matter how much or little time you can spare, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.’

Portsmouth Scouts Commissioner Ron Jacobs has invited people to North Harbour on May 13 for a ‘transport rally’ in support of Scouting and The Rowans Hospice. To help email 4D@scouts-hants.org.uk or call 07842 436772.
